Rustic Douglas Fir Bench

A while back I took some time away from making custom tables to work with a chunk reclaimed Douglas Fir to craft this one of a kind bench. Unlike most of my pieces, this one was crafted on spec, and was recently purchased to go into a recording studio for a client in the construction industry.

This 7’ Douglas Fir bench incorporates a simple design which allows the wood to show off it’s grain and strength. The slab used for this bench is 12” wide x 4” thick, and was 19’ long. It came from a pilots’ training hangar that was built at Toronto Pearson Airport during the Second World War. When the building was dismantled in the 2010s we were able to salvage some of the massive Douglas Fir beams and have been turning them into spec and custom pieces ever since.

This one of a kind bench will now go on to enjoy a third life (tree, building, furniture) as a bench in the client’s podcast recording studio and provide a seat for many a good conversation for years to come.
